Notes on These Diets:
The 4 adequate samples above are far too few to serve as models. Please send more examples
Italics: Dialysis diets are intentionally low in potassium and phosphorus, since the kidneys of dialysis patients cannot control these two nutrients.
*European Bone Loss study measured 23% less sodium and 17% less calcium by atomic absorption of the food than from food tables (1,938 and 625 respectively), so other food tables may also not be accurate.
NIH DASH diet is analyzed in NIH tab of spreadsheet
Other Diets:
EatThisMuch.com is excellent in creating daily diets which comply with your goals for calories, sodium, protein, fiber, carbohydrate, fat, cholesterol. It does not usually provide enough calcium or potassium or other micronutrients
DaVita dialysis offers many menu plans with sodium below 1,500 and calories 1,700-2,100, though calcium is below 500 and potassium is below 4,000 since dialysis patients need low potassium.
US News and World Report lists 32 other diets, showing some of the same nutrients above, and none of those diets has sodium below 1,500 and potassium above 4,700.
